 I decided to go ahead and commit a modified version of this patch anyway
 and credit you as listed in trac given that you use your !RedHat contact
 details there.  If this is wrong, I apologize.  I also changed the patch
 to use `strchr()` instead of `index()` since we need to be compatible with
 non-glibc systems.
