 Firstly, this isn't a critical bug, but it's still an annoying bug.

 Older versions of the *real* MSN client send:

 Content-Type: text/plain

 in the MSG command, as opposed to newer clients sending:

 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

 If an older msn client sends an extended character such as 'â' to a pidgin
 client (without charset=UTF-8) this causes the receiving pidgin client to
 fault and crash in *both* windows and linux.

 I've attached a copy of my pidgin.RPT.
