 I am having the same issue (although mine is unrelated to any Nvidia
 software addition/removal).  Here is what happens in the debug window:

 (16:10:50) proxy: Attempting connection to 205.188.211.184
 (16:10:50) proxy: Connecting to 205.188.211.184:5190 with no proxy

 (16:10:59) proxy: Connecting to 205.188.211.184:5190.
