New description:

 Note compiled Pidgin from source with:
 ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-perl MAKE=gmake

 Also modified the libpurple/protocols/bonjour/jabber.c  to include line
 for:
 #include <sys/sockio.h>

Comment:

 I haven't seen this issue since I reported it. I guess this means it can
 be closed.

 Currently using 2.5.3 on OpenSolaris 1108.

 There was one slight compiler issue for xgettext, which was resolved by
 commenting the offending checker lines in the .configure file.
