Comment:

 Before Pidgin finally ran, I had to push "q <return>" several times.  gdb
 kept finding no debugging symbols and encountering an error while looking
 for library symbols.  One time that I told it to quit, the Pidgin window
 finally showed up.  I entered the above URL and forced the conversation
 window to quit.

 Should I uninstall the repo version and install the latest stable for
 testing?
