 In the meantime the other ticket was closed because a plugin with the
 perfect solution was found.

 So just for the records: those who want something like this should try the
 "Extended Buddy List Sort" plugin here:
 http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins#Interfacetweaks

 It's not the same, but can help a lot with your offline contacts getting
 in the way.
