 Maybe I spoke too soon, it seems to be doing it now, with notify.dll off.
 I was typing in a message box, when it grew to 2 lines tall, I saw a
 couple more letters i typed, then it's been spinning since.  It's only
 been running a couple hours, though this time oddly it took 15 minutes of
 CPU to start up (reported in http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/8073 ),
 which never happened before.  I'll leave it thinking for a few hours and
 see if recovers.
