 pidgin does not use perl to parse xml files. If you start pidgin, add an
 account, quit pidgin, then restart it again (having done nothing else) do
 you still have the xml parsing problems?

 Can you attach an example file from immediately after pidgin creates it
 (while pidgin is still running), from after pidgin quits, and from after
 pidgin fails to read it and backs it up?

 Our testing framework is incredibly minimal, you are welcome to submit
 patches to increase its coverage.
