Comment:

 Ah, I didn't realise it was a setting that could be changed in a config
 file (~/.gtkrc-2.0) without modifying code. It does solve my immediate
 problem, thanks.

 I think the underlying issue here is that the label gets focus when the
 dialog is displayed. It would probably be a better idea to give focus to
 one of the buttons (perhaps "reconnect"?) instead.
