 Guifications does work, the fact that you are having a problem with it
 doesn't change that. There was talk a while back of integrating a very
 minimal guifications-like feature into pidgin so that people wouldn't need
 to load the extra plugin (but it simply never happened). If you would like
 to resurrect that idea please feel free to send an email to the
 development mailing list and offer your time to work on the feature.

 The survey (unless I'm mistaken) very clearly stated that it was not going
 to be used to directly dictate the direction pidgin development was going
 to go. It was to be used much more as a barometer of how (overall) we are
 doing and to allow people to feel (and be) more involved, as the more
 involved people we have the more likely it is things will progress in ways
 that help everyone.
