New description:

When performing a copy/paste from a variety of places (thunderbird,
wikipedia articles on firefox, etc), Pidgin does not preserve the carriage
 returns.
 [[BR]][[BR]]
 Steps to reproduce:[[BR]]
 1) (Use Firefox) Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed-wing_aircraft
 [[BR]]
 2) Copy the entire paragraph under Overview[[BR]]
 3) Paste into pidgin[[BR]]
 4) Notice all carriage returns are lost.[[BR]]
 [[BR]][[BR]]
The root cause is likely this:[[BR]]
"the HTML support in Pidgin is very minimal.
The text in this case is embedded in paragraph (<p>...</p>) tags and
pidgin doesn't know how to handle these, so it ignores them."

 Workaround: [[BR]]
 1) Right click and "Paste as Plain Text" [[BR]]
 2) Paste and re-copy from a plain text editor, like Notepad [[BR]]

Because so many applications have carriage returns this way, I think
Pidgin should support this. It's common to try to paste webpages from
 friends.

This issue is reproduced on Pidgin 2.5.4 for Windows.
