Comment:

 Resizing the window automatically is not an acceptable option, in some
 windowing environments this simply cannot be done, in some layouts doing
 so would obscure important parts of other windows, etc.

 We admit that there is some slight chance for confusion involved here, but
 we think the chance is minimal and the cost even more so. If you are
 writing a message and have written enough so that you have entered more
 text then can fit into two lines the likelihood of anything your buddy may
 have written causing you to not finish your message strikes us as low.

 Personally, if it was possible I would almost suggest that we should
 simply grow the input area on top of the history area without shifting the
 history area text at all, but I think this would likely be infinitely more
 confusing for most people and I believe it to be technically impossible at
 the moment as well.
