#8292: Excessive memory usage in winpidgin (hundreds of MB)

Component: winpidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.5.4

Since 2.4 or so my Pidgin has been using large amounts of memory when left
running. Using [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-
us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Sysinternals Process Explorer] to monitor
Working Set, Private Bytes, and Virtual Size, Private Bytes expands to
hundreds of megabytes in size over time - I just closed a pidgin instance
that had >700MB Private Bytes and >1000MB Virtual Size, using most of the
memory on the system. I have to restart Pidgin up to several times a day
to free memory, and it is frequently using in excess of 500MB when I do
so.
* Windows XP SP3
* Accounts: AIM, IRC (~18 channels across 2 servers), Jabber (Google
Talk), MSN, YIM.
* This behaviour occurs even with all plugins disabled.
* GTK+ Runtime: 2.14.6
* Glib Runtime: 2.18.3
* Am '''not''' running any wallpaper changer software or changing
wallpaper. Disabled [http://www.nvidia.com/object/feature_nview.html NView
Desktop Manager] (has multi-display wallpaper functionality) to no effect.
* Possibly relevant shell extensions loaded:
[http://www.nvidia.com/object/feature_twinview.html NVidia TwinView,]
[http://sourceforge.net/projects/runasadmin RunAsAdmin Explorer Shim]
* Running debug version with logs saved from the last few executions, can
post if desired. No crash reports as I've been having to forcekill it via
Process Explorer.
Any other information you could use? It's getting rather irritating to
have system slowdown -> restart Pidgin every so often, multiple times per
day with heavy use.
