Comment:

 That's a pretty excessive list of recommended dependencies, I will agree,
 but as I mentioned, it's due to apt-get installing Recommends packages by
 default.

 If you build Finch from scratch, except for the build environment (which
 is a big "except"), you wouldn't need most of those dependencies if you
 don't plan on using the related protocols (bonjour, gadu-gadu, sametime,
 SILC, zephyr).
