 Of the things in your second set of dependencies:
  * avahi, gadu, meanwhile, silc, and zephyr are for protocols
  * libpurple is libpurple
  * pidgin-data is images, sounds, translations, the default prefs.xml,
 etc.
  * nss and nspr are for SSL support (some protocols require them)
  * gstreamer is sound

 I'm not sure what the deal with hesiod is.

 The recommends issue is a packaging issue, not a finch issue. Unless our
 PPA packages have this issue as well.
