 pidgin uses the language from your locale for determining which dictionary
 to use. The [pp:wiki:switchspell switchspell] plugin from the Plugin Pack
 can be used to change the spell checked language.

 What locale are you running pidgin from? What does 'locale' say in a
 terminal?
