Comment:

 I ''believe'' Mark Doliner just recently fixed this for Pidgin 2.6.0.  It
 turns out a function we were using to convert plain text to HTML (which is
 required for AIM) was overly aggressive and changing apostrophes as well.
 If you still experience issues after 2.6.0, please comment here and we'll
 reopen the ticket.
