#9698: Method for externally closing Pidgin properly (command-line switch?)

For some time now, I have released a package of Pidgin for SanDisk's U3
 platform for flash drives
 http://software.u3.com/Product_Details.aspx?ProductId=405&Selection=14&Lang
=en-US. However, the one thing that I am not able to do in my package is
cleanly close the program externally. When you eject the flash drive, the
U3 platform sends a message (which I define in the app's config manifest)
to the program to close. However, Pidgin does not have any such interface
(that I know of) to programmatically close it cleanly, and the best I can
do is to make a call to the system to end the process, effectively
crashing Pidgin. Can a command-line option be added to close Pidgin
properly in the same way as Ctrl+Q? If Pidgin was not running when it was
called it should either do nothing or produce an error however Pidgin does
that, but should not create a popup box or anything like that.
