 As of 2.5.8, it is still a problem.  I noted that closed ticket
 [ticket:7086] describes the problem pretty well and that person had the
 issue with Vista.  I am using Windows XP, SP3 using a dual monitor display
 with a similar issue.  Here are more details, in case it helps.

  * Initial launch of Pidgin (like after a reboot), my Window is hidden to
 my System tray (don't remember if there is a setting to do that or if I
 just always have the window closed before shutdown) which is how I like
 it.

  * Double click system tray icon to bring up window.  Buddy list is docked
 to far right of second display (monitor on the right).

  * Close docked window.

  * double click tray icon - window is restored in proper spot on monitor
 but is NOT docked anymore.

 It appears to be a relatively simple internal setting fix, but I wouldn't
 know how to code it (or I would certainly try).  I have a co-worker who
 experiences the same problem, similar system (I think he docks to left of
 primary monitor).  THANKS.
