New description:

 In tabbed conversations, a buddy in a background tab going offline or idle
 greys the tab title and changes the icon. When the user returns, pidgin
 fails to update the text & icon until the tab is brought to the
 foreground. This happens also when the client is disconnected locally and
 reconnects.

 My tabs are all through a single AIM account.
 Problem exists at least from 2.4.3 to 2.5.8,
