 Bernmeister's comment does not reflect this bug at all.

 darkrain42: It is sort of an issue with the irc prpl, in that we are
 simply unaware that the redirected channel and the original channel are
 related at all.  The numeric we receive from freenode in this instance is
 non-standard, however, so I am hesitant to implement it.  It could mean
 something entirely different on a different server.

 The bottom line is that a redirected channel is not the norm, and a
 trivial mistake such as a missing alias is not a concern to me in this
 case.  Channels should not be redirected often, and one should not be
 keeping a redirected channel in one's blist for a long period of time.
