Comment:

 Something (a firewall? antivirus software?) is blocking your connecting to
 the GOogle Talk servers such that it times out. There's little Pidgin can
 do in this situation.

 It ''may'' work if you select "Use Old-Style SSL" and set the connect port
 to 443.
