 Yes, this is still happening in Pidgin 2.5.8.

 An additional note:  In Windows Vista (64-bit Ultimate), Alt-Tabbing to
 the desktop will cause the docked buddy list to disappear, and must be
 brought back by alt-tabbing to another window or closing and reopening the
 buddy list via the tray icon.
