 If Pidgin is built with dbus and NetworkManager support, it will receive
 notifications over dbus and thus 'detect' a disconnect immediately.

 However, the "XMPP Delivery Error" window you're describing sounds an
 awful lot like an error that is generated when your server cannot
 successfully send a message to another server (the errors can also occur
 in other situations; I tend to see them most often in that case).

 What is the exact title/message of the pop-up from Pidgin some time later,
 or could you post a screenshot of it?
