 I'm not sure there's a good way to solve this problem, the per-nick colors
 are a pidgin interface thing whereas writing the log messages is a
 libpurple thing. And actually looking at it, it looks like we log with
 different send/receive colors then we currently display for new messages,
 are you seeing that?

 I'm open to ideas about how to do this but I'm not sure offhand what can
 be done about it.
