 I don't know about MSN but for XMPP the concepts of being on the roster
 and being authorized to see presence are two different things (closely
 intertwined things, but different nonetheless). AIM, to the best of my
 knowledge, does not have such a distinction which makes this "feature"
 trickier. What is unfortunate here is that allowing people to revoke
 presence permissions is reasonable but allowing people to modify other
 people's buddy lists is not as reasonable and there is no separation
 between those actions for AIM.

 It certainly seems like we can't do anything to stop this, or detect it if
 it happens when we aren't online. It appears that we might be able to
 detect it if we are online, though what we should do about it in that case
 is not exactly clear.
