 Strangely, it appears to be working correctly when I observe one of my
 contacts who uses Trillian. I will post a debug log for my contact who
 uses Pidgin, who doesn't appear to go offline.

 I'm fairly sure I can reproduce this as I've been watching it happen for
 both me and someone else for quite a while now. Just my luck that the only
 available contact right now *doesn't* reproduce it.
