 I'm not sure under what conditions you'll get this error message, but I
 was able to just now generate it by editting my MSN account details - on
 the Advanced TAB I deliberately put in a bogus Server and got the error
 you reported.

 Ensure you have:

 Server: messenger.hotmail.com
 Port: 1863

 If you use the HTTP method, it needs to be checked and

 HTTP Method Server: gateway.messenger.hotmail.com
