 I believe we used to present a more informative version response and that
 generated some complaints about being a 'privacy' leak. Some people want
 that information sent, others don't. Anyone who trusts a version response
 blindly is asking to be incorrect because what information is presented is
 entirely up to the client in question (as you can clearly see).

 Without opening this value up to user configuration I'm not sure what we
 can do to make this work for everyone, and I really dislike the idea of
 adding a preference/field for configuring this.
