Comment:

 The pending status means we are waiting on a response to our questions, a
 ticket that stays in the pending status for two weeks is automatically
 closed, when the person who submitted the ticket responds pending is
 unset.

 The HTTP method uses a different server, which leads me back to thinking
 this is a network problem.

 Do either 'telnet messenger.hotmail.com 1863' or 'telnet
 login.messaging.aol.com 5190' work? Or do they wait for a bit and then
 fail with a connection error?
