 Ignoring Morbii's comments about ICQ (this ticket is about XMPP), I
 suspect the issue is that the  DIGEST-MD5 RFC requires that, if a password
 ''can'' be converted to ISO-8859-1, it MUST be before hashing (characters
 like §©ÙÑÅ are in ISO-8859-1), but ejabberd ''does not'' do this.

 This is a bug in ejabberd, see [https://support.process-
 one.net/browse/EJAB-476 EJAB-476].

 If this isn't the issue (the characters are outside of
 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-1 ISO-8859-1]), please attach a
 debug log of the failed connection as well as what non-ascii character is
 in the password (obviously, don't post your password.)
