 I am experiencing similar symptoms.  AIM disconnects every 5 minutes or so
 with the error Connection interrupted by other software on your computer.
 Oddly, this only happens when I am connected to the network via a hardwire
 ethernet connection.  When I am connected wirelessly, it never happens.
 It never happened (regardless the connection) before I upgraded to 2.5.6.
 I did install the Guifications plug-in around the same time I upgraded, so
 I cannot be 100% sure that it is not involved; however, the symptoms are
 not solved by disabling Guifications.

 This only happens with AIM, and not with any of the other protocols I am
 using (yahoo, msn, gmail).

 As a side note, I am running two AIM accounts (one for work, and one
 personal.  Both accounts exhibit the same symptoms.
