 I've got a very similar problem: I am nearly always disconnected when I
 add a buddy, and when I log in then, I have the following message from
 Pidgin:

 {{{
 Impossible d'ajouter un utilisateur
 Erreur inconnue (204)
 }}}

 (in English: Could not add a buddy. Unknown error (204))

 I am using a Passport account with a non-microsoft email too (Yahoo), and
 Pidgin 2.5.6
