 I'm experiencing similar problems here. Running Redhat Fedora 11, Pidgin
 2.5.6-1, libpurple 2.5.6-1. Haven't been able to connect to Yahoo accounts
 since this morning.

 The /etc/hosts fix by hans.kramer worked for me too, so this seems to be
 related to DNS in some way.
