 You see the text you are inputting and your text in the history area in
 black? What plugins are you using? What color does the text in the
 preferences window Conversation page have? What happens if you hit ctrl-r
 in the input area of your conversation window with this friend?

 This happens for your account regardless of what computer and installation
 of pidgin you are using? Did you bring your configuration along to those
 other computers? Does it happen for all ICQ 6.5 buddies or just some
 specific buddies?
