 This has nothing to do with a proxy and has to do with Yahoo changing
 their authentication scheme and disabling the old scheme (which is why it
 is timing out for you). It works/doesn't work from various locations
 because you're actually connecting to different servers dependent on the
 IPs that 'scs.msg.yahoo.com' resolves to.

 The ticket I closed this as a duplicate of, #8853, is the canonical ticket
 documenting those issues. There are workarounds there (or see
 [http://www.celticwolf.com/useful-information/faqs/26-pidgin-yahoo]. While
 I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the information there, it seems
 reasonable-ish).
