Comment:

 You probably have multiple versions of pidgin and libpurple installed,
 additionally you may have a version of libpurple installed which wasn't
 compiled with the version of gstreamer you have installed.

 How did you install pidgin? What does 'type pidgin' say? Do you have a
 pidgin binary in both /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin? What about libpurple
 libraries in /usr/lib and /usr/local/lib?
