 I've added several packet captures taken from the compliance server side.
 When connecting to either compliance solution from a libPurple client via
 SOCKS I see failures in approximately the same place which leads me to
 believe the issue is in libPurple.

 I also attached a packet capture also taken from the compliance server
 side but using Y! Messenger 9.0 instead.  It does not look like Y!
 Messenger uses SSL when going via SOCKS.

 Again, this is really important to us and others who are using Pidgin,
 Adium, or other libPurple based clients from behind an IM Compliance
 solution; any/all help is greatly appreciated.  I can make a compliance
 solution available to anybody who wants to take this on.
