 It would be very handy to have a backup plugin in Pidgin.

 For a start: this plugin should backup the entire .purple directory,
 compress it (zip or tar.gz) and mail it to a user defined e-mail address.

 The preferred behavior would be similar to the behavior of the Xmarks
 extension for Firefox.  This extensions looks if there has been a change
 in the bookmark and notifies the user for synchronization.  Then the user
 can restore or merge the data between client and server.
