Comment:

 In the debug log you've posted, it attempts to connect to a bonjour user
 at IP `24.28.193.9` and port `5298`.

 The request times out.

 The possibilities are:
  * The advertised IP/Port values from the other client are incorrect
  * A firewall is preventing connections
  * Pidgin is parsing the advertised values incorrectly.

 I think the second option is the most likely despite your assertion about
 the lack of firewalls in your scenario.

 Your debug log doesn't contain the output from when the buddy signs on
 (not that it would probably help at all).
