 I can log in just fine and the program will run with no problem until
 either I receive or send a message.  After the first message the program
 freezes and becomes completely unresponsive.  I've upgraded from 2.5.2 to
 2.5.5 and the problem persists.  I even went as far as completely removing
 the program and then going through a step by step install so that it was
 configured properly for my system.

 I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on a 64 bit system.
