 I run XAMPP lite in which a copy of aspell's dll comes with PHP. This dll
 gets registered first and GTK attempts to use it.

 I'm unsure if anything can be done to Pidgin to solve this problem, but it
 is fixed by not installing spell checking for Pidgin.
