 MtnDew4Me: You are having the same error (Pidgin does not see the server
 advertising STARTTLS, so you cannot authenticate).

 Follow my directions above to mike801 (including '''unchecking''' 'Allow
 plaintext auth over unencrypted channel') that should fix the problem.

 To both of you: What sort of network are you connecting from? Is it a
 corporate network with some firewall product (do you know what is?) or are
 you both on home networks (if so, who is your ISP?)
