Comment(by 5arge):

 I completely agree with hiding persistent chats at start-up. The
 reasoning behind this is the same as having Pidgin minimized/docked at
 start-up. Hiding a persistent IRC chats would make them equivalent in
 functionality as the other available Pidgin accounts: communication
 channel is opened, and sounds/tray notifications alert the user to
 messages received. Is there any reason for message windows to open for
 every MSN buddy in my list when I start Pidgin? No, the same goes for IRC
 chats.

 The way it is right now, it is an annoyance: a pop-up window that usually
 needs to be immediately minimized/closed. Granted, I am still grateful
 for the persistent chat feature. Just offering my opinion on what I think
 would make the program better.

 Another suggestion: provide the ability to prevent (or automatically
 close) extra IRC messages generated from connecting (such as CTCP, Global,
 AuthServ, Chanserv, etc.). Yet, I imagine this will be much more
 difficult to implement.
