Comment:

 According to him, there's nothing he has changed that could cause this.
 However i have just noticed something, i dont think thats the cause, but
 you never know. As you can see in the pidgin1.png attachment, there is a
 music icon in the first buddy, this guy also has this icon. I have asked a
 friend to turn music on, the icon was displayed but the group she is in
 had the right number of people online, so i restarted Pidgin and all the
 counts were right.
