 That preference attempts to set a Registry key, this sounds like that is
 failing. Open the Help->Debug Window before clicking the checkbox and see
 what the debug window says about setting/saving the preference. I'm going
 to bet that you see an error about being unable to set the registry key
 value.

 Is this in a corporate environment where access to parts of the registry
 might be restricted? Are you running some registry change prevention
 software or something?
