Comment:

The right-click menu in the entry area provides a 'Paste as plain text'
option for exactly this sort of use, that is pasting text from a website
(or other location) without getting the associated formatting. pidgin
should not be transforming normal line breaks into XHTML-IM formatting as
far as I am aware, and as I have said more than once if a client that
doesn't support XHTML-IM formatting is displaying the XHTML-IM formatted
text that pidgin sends then that client is simply flat out broken, as
pidgin sends the text both formatted and un-formatted (as
 required/suggested by the XEP).

So while I can see the desire for the feature as requested the reality is
that for the most part it really isn't needed. There is a valid bug
related to this though which is that pidgin always sends the formatted
text even when no formatting exists, and that is a bug that is being fixed
 (#8738).
