 Actually, now that I think about it you bring up a good point.  I was
 having this problem before I installed a sound card, but after it works
 fine.  Have you tested the product on a machine with out a sound card?

 I mean, think about it: you IM someone, it goes to play the sound, there
 is no sound card to play the sound, and it freezes.  It makes perfect
 sense.  I wonder how hard it would be to put in a start up check to see if
 the machine has a sound card and if not to disable sound completely.  That
 might be the fix were really looking for here.
