 I'll second that request. It would be nice if you could set the default
 behavior for retaining formatting of pasted text, and if set to ignore
 formatting by default, the existing "Paste as Plain Text" context menu
 option would be replaced with "Paste With Formatting," so you could still
 get the alternate behavior on the rare occasion when it is desired.

 The desire for this feature is increased due to the current crop of bugs
 surrounding the way Pidgin handles formatting and pasted text, such as
 #1198.
