Comment:

 The problem isn't notifying people that things have changed (which the
 people most likely to be negatively affected by this feature would likely
 never notice), the problem is that people will not expect things to change
 on focus. I know of no other application that does that.

 One of the single most frequent complaints levelled against IM
 applications (and applications in general) is one of focus stealing, that
 is having input go to unexpected locations. And while you aren't asking
 for outright focus stealing you are asking for non-obvious, non-user-
 initiated focus changes.

 It should be possible for a plugin to be written to do this if you still
 want it though.
